WiFi is part of the service, just like the welcome

In a hotel, a bar, a restaurant or an event venue, the first thing a guest asks for is the WiFi code. With WiNet, that request becomes either a well-handled piece of hospitality or a line of revenue, and sometimes both.

Two models, one installation

The same router and the same portal let you give access away or sell it. Many venues start by giving away a short session, then offer a paid bundle to carry on.

Model 1 — access given away, branded as yours

The guest connects, your welcome page appears with your name, your logo and your colour, then they are online. What they see is your venue, not an anonymous technical page.

  • A custom welcome page: name, logo, main colour.
  • An advert image for the dish of the day, an event or a special offer.
  • A WhatsApp button that opens a chat with reception straight away.
  • A capped session length, so the connection stays smooth for everyone.
  • It brings in no direct revenue: it is a selling point, not takings.
  • It does not remove the need for a time limit: without one, a few devices take the whole line.

Model 2 — access sold by the room or by the table

The guest picks a bundle on the portal and pays for it themselves by Mobile Money or by card. Your staff have nothing to collect, nothing to write down, nothing to chase at check-out.

  • Bundles matched to real use: the length of a meal, an evening, a night, a whole stay.
  • The guest pays on their own, without going through the till.
  • A zone balance that grows sale after sale, withdrawable to your Mobile Money number.
  • A price list you can change mid-season, from your phone.
  • Access that closes itself at expiry, with no staff involved.

You can mix the two: for example a short free session for everyone, then paid bundles for those who want to stay online longer.

Choosing your model

Given away or sold: what actually changes

The durations and amounts mentioned here are examples, meant to illustrate the logic of each model. Your price list stays yours.

Criterion Access given away Access sold
What the guest sees Your welcome page, then the connection opens with nothing to pay. Your welcome page, then the list of bundles and the payment.
Typical length Short, for example 30 minutes or 1 hour, renewable. Matched to the stay: 2 hours, an evening, 24 hours or several days.
Effect on your revenue Indirect: WiFi becomes a reason to come in and to come back. Direct: every session feeds the zone balance.
Work for your staff None: no code to repeat, no sign to reprint. None either: the guest pays on the portal alone.
Best for Bars, restaurants, waiting rooms, short visits. Hotels, guest houses, hostels, event venues.

What the venue gains on top

A well-finished portal theme

The CAFE_HOTEL template gives the portal the feel of a proper welcome, closer to a menu than to a technical page. Like every portal template, it is free.

An advert image of your own

The portal can show an image you choose: the dish of the day, an upcoming event, room rates, the opening of a new function room. Every connection becomes an impression.

A WhatsApp button on the page

The guest can reach reception with one tap, without hunting for a number. Handy for a service request, a booking or a question about the connection.

Guests and staff kept apart

Nothing forces you to put everyone on the same access. The guest network and the one used by staff or by the till can stay separate, each with its own rules.

A bundle that covers the whole stay

You give a bundle a validity in days — “valid for 3 days” — counted from the guest's first connection, not from the purchase. A code handed over on arrival and used the next day still gives three full days from that next day. At expiry it stops working on its own: nothing to do at check-out.

Codes to hand out at reception

For the guest who would rather be handed something, print a sheet of vouchers, up to a hundred at a time. The codes come out in the format you set for the zone — short and free of easily confused characters by default — and each one carries the bundle name exactly as you wrote it.

Think about the season

Trade in a hotel or an event venue swings a lot from month to month. Your bundles should follow: a “whole stay” tier makes sense in high season, much less on a quiet Tuesday. Everything can be changed from the app in seconds, with no technical work.
